What’s News in Nassau? Access to children’s mental health services is a growing concern across Long Island, as the landscape of healthcare continues to evolve.

Epilepsy affects one percent of the U.S population. On Long Island, 35,000 people live with the diagnosis. Of those, 30 to 40 percent do not have good control over their seizures, even with medication.

EPIC Long Island Chief Executive Officer Tom Hopkins and Weill Cornell Medical Center Neuropsychology professor Kenneth Perrine, M.D., discussed work and services of the nonprofit organization, the connection between epilepsy and concussions, what is known about the risk of developing epilepsy from participating in sports, and efforts to increase public awareness of epilepsy.

Internationally known neurologist Alan B. Ettinger, M.D., M.B.A., Director of the Epilepsy Center at Neurological Surgery, P.C. (NSPC) and Professor of Clinical Neurology, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, has been named to the 2015 Super Doctors® list published by MSP Communications. No more than 5% of physicians in the New York metro region have achieved this designation. Dr. Ettinger is a resident of Huntington, NY.
